AUVSI 2017: Liquid Robotics pursues non-AIS avoidance capability

The Wave Glider USV will soon add an autonomous acoustic avoidance capability to enable the platform to better operate in areas where illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing is taking place.

Already featuring automated identification system (AIS) sense and avoid technology, the platform will therefore be able to avoid encounters with fishing vessels and other maritime craft operating with an active AIS.

Speaking to Shephard at AUVSI's Xponential Daniel Middleton, executive VP at Liquid Robotics, said that this capability would be fully active in the next 12 months.

'The capability is already there but just not operationalised,' he said, adding
