US technology start-up Houston Mechatronics will from June begin open water testing of its new 'Transformer-style' underwater ROV which travels to an inspection site as a slim-line submarine before converting into a more conventional inspection system.
The company, which recently announced it had received $20 million in investment, has completed some tank testing, including arm operation. It will begin evaluation using a Block 1 variant with more tank testing as well as open water testing, possibly near Galveston, before taking lessons learned into Block 2 in October.
