The manufacturer of the RQ-4B Global Hawk, Northrop Grumman, is looking to prepare the UAV for future missions by testing and fitting a new sensor to the aircraft.

The company has begun testing the MS-177 next-generation multi spectral camera on the Global Hawk and is to continue evaluations through the summer of 2017. Speaking to Shephard, Michael Lyons, Global Hawk programme lead, said that the company expects to field the camera in December 2017.

The MS-177 will provide the Global Hawk with the ability to stare at a target with multi-spectral capacity over very long distances.
