AUVSI 2016: More substance for the Shadow

The awarding of a $116.5 million deal to Textron Systems Unmanned Systems upgrade 24 US Army RQ-7B Shadow tactical UAS to the V2 standard will see increase in platform capacity and capability, according to company officials.

The US Department of Defense inventory includes 117 Shadow systems, operated by the US Army, Marine Corps and Special Operations Command. Textron officials stated that the contract ‘furthers the US Army’s Shadow V2 block upgrade programme’, under which the company acts as lead system integrator, and aircraft and ground control station original equipment manufacturer.
