AUVSI 2015: NASA moves like Greased Lightning

NASA's Langley Research Center is moving its Greased Lightning GL-10 electric VTOL prototype into endurance testing after proving it can successfully transition from vertical to forward wing-borne flight.

A 50% scale version of the envisaged final variant, the GL-10 features eight electric motors on the wings, two electric motors on the tail and weighs a maximum of 28.1 kilograms at take-off.

On 8 April, the GL-10 team carried out flight tests where the aircraft transitioned from hover to wing-borne flight then back to hover again.
