AUVSI 2015: Army searches for new Shadow engine

The US Army is on the hunt for a new engine for its RQ-7Bv2 Shadow tactical UAS as part of a wider near-term modernisation effort that will introduce a range of improvements.

The Shadow Block III Engine Program was described as the ‘cornerstone’ of the R&D efforts currently underway at the army’s tactical UAS project office during a presentation at the Unmanned Systems exhibition in Atlanta.

Shadow UAS product manager Lt Col Tory Burgess said the Shadow V2 had outgrown its current 1102 engine so funding had been put in place to start procuring a more capable replacement from late
