AUVSI 2012: Sandstorm offers low cost training opportunities
Northrop Grumman has teamed with Unmanned Systems Inc. to market the latter's Sandstorm UAS as a low cost solution for pilot training of the current generation of UAS not equipped with automatic take off and landing systems.
'It's basically a training system,' Karl Purdy, Northrop Grumman's New UAS Programs lead explained. Looking at the number of mishaps that can happen during take off and landing of aircraft such as the Predator, Unmanned Systems saw a gap in the market for system that was better than a simulator and a far lower cost than a multi-million dollar UAS.
