Harris has used AUVSI's Unmanned Systsems North America exhibition and conference to launch the RedHawk UGV for disarming IEDs.
The system is designed based on input from 'hundreds' of UGV operators, and is intended to be used by explosive ordnance disposal technicians and first responders.
RedHawk's 'intuitive' haptic feedback enables operators to 'feel' objects remotely as they manipulate and disarm IEDs, according to the company. It provides users with the intuitive control and feedback that enables 'human-like robotic manipulation' while keeping operators out of danger.
Haptic technology takes advantage of the sense of touch by applying forces, vibrations, or motions
