Australia to adopt new predatory OWL species

The Australian Defence Force will introduce the One-Way Loitering (OWL) platform by Innovaero, the country’s first long-range loitering munition, to enhance strike capabilities and understanding of loitering munitions.

Later this year, the Australian Defence Force (ADF) will introduce its first long-range loitering munition in the form of an indigenous platform produced by Western Australia-based firm Innovaero.

ABC reported that the One-Way Loitering (OWL) munition was currently being trialled by an Australian Army special operations unit.

Innovaero failed to respond to Shephard’s request for further details, but it is known that a pre-production prototype was successfully demonstrated to the ADF late last year. As well as giving units – special operations forces initially – a strike capability, the OWL will enable the army to grow in its understanding
