AUSA 2019: MUTT gets a radio boost

The Persistent Systems MPU5 radio has been installed on General Dynamics’s Multipurpose Unmanned Tactical Transport (MUTT) UGV as part of the latter’s Small Multipurpose Equipment Transport (SMET) bid for the US Army.

More than 20,000 MPU5s have been sold since the product was launched four years ago and Persistent Systems began talking about the possibility of integrating the radio onto MUTT in 2017 with integration beginning in late 2018.

MUTT is competing for SMET against a variant of the Polaris MRZR, the Howe and Howe RS2-H1, and the HDT Global Hunter WOLF. Early versions of MUTT were a tethered vehicle
