Dubai 2015: 3D printed UAV turns heads

Constructed almost entirely out of 3D printed materials, the Stratasys and Aurora Flight Sciences’ UAV technology demonstrator equally turned and baffled heads.

Taking pride of place at the Stratasys stand at the Dubia Airshow, the concept is thought to be the most complex 3D printed UAV ever produced with some 80% of its components being produced through additive manufacturing. The aircraft can achieve speeds in excess of 150mph, and weights 15kg.

While it represented the end of a long process of R&D, culminating in the demonstrator, follow-on UAV projects were likely not on Stratasys’ horizon, according to applications engineer Jay
