US Navy orders more ELGTRs
Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $25.8 million contract by the US Navy for the production of Enhanced Laser Guided Training Rounds (ELGTR), the company announced on 14 April.
In addition to delivering the ELGTRs, Lockheed Martin will also refurbish reusable shipping containers and provide associated technical data, extending ELGTR production into late 2018.
ELGTR is a live-fire training solution that emulates the flight characteristics of Paveway II laser-guided weapon systems and presents pilots with the same information they would see during an actual mission. The ELGTR is compatible with the F-16, AV-8B, F/A-18 and other international aircraft platforms.
Joe Serra, precision guided systems program director, Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control, said: ‘The US Navy and ten international partner countries rely on ELGTR for their Paveway II Laser Guided Bomb training programmes. ELGTR ensures US and allied warfighters can hone their skills in order to maintain mission readiness.’
This award is the last of four options under the IDIQ ELGTR contract that the company received in 2013.
