The US Army has awarded Textron Systems Marine & Land Systems an Interim Contractor Training Support (ICTS) contract to provide next-level training to the Afghan National Army for its four-wheeled Mobile Strike Force Vehicles (MSFVs), the company announced on 5 October.

The contract is valued at $17.4 million and has a 12 month period of performance.

Textron will provide on-the-job training and mentorship, and support ANA personnel in taking on detailed maintenance and repair work to sustain its MSFV inventory. The company will also continue developing and delivering programme instruction manuals, and mentoring and training the ANA on inventory and supply system activities.

Over 550 MSFVs are actively engaged in security operations in Afghanistan, with 621 vehicles delivered to the ANA since 2012.

Tom Walmsley, senior vice president and general manager, Textron, said: ‘The goal of this training programme is to equip the Afghan National Army with the required skills to be fully self-sufficient in all aspects of maintaining and sustaining its MSFV fleet over the long haul. This training supports the US’ strategic objective of transitioning the security mission in Afghanistan to that nation’s military.’
