Cubic tailors mortar simulator for the US Army
The company’s mortar trainer received improvements based on soldier’s feedback.
Tempus Jets has received a $25 million, five-year contract from the US Department of Interior to provide airborne threat simulation services to Department of the Navy and its Research Development Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) function, it was announced on 8 June.
The company will provide its Learjet 35A and Learjet 60 aircraft to the US Navy. These aircraft have been modified to include military communications capability, target towing equipment and threat simulation devices. Tempus Jets will fly the aircraft in navy threat simulation and training exercises in and around US naval bases in the continental US and Hawaii.
Tempus Jets will start providing the services from the fourth quarter of 2016.
Scott Terry, chief executive officer, Tempus, said: ‘We're honoured to have been awarded this contract by the Department of Interior. We are excited for the opportunity to apply some newer technology and operational processes to the US Navy threat simulation and RDT&E community.’

This type of tool provides more realistic training easing the incorporation of new scenarios that accurately represent the threats of the battlefield.
The Engineering Corps has been conducting individual instruction using FLAIM Systems’ Sweeper and should start collective deployments in 2025.
The next-generation platform is motion-compatible and can be used in OTW and NVG applications.
The system can be used to prepare soldiers for both drone offensive operations and CUAS missions.
