South Korea participates in ADMM-Plus
South Korea participated in maritime security and counterterrorism training, organised by ADMM-Plus, the government announced on 10 May. The country's military developed its joint and combined operational capabilities through the training.
The exercise was held around Singapore and Brunei to train soldiers to rescue hostages and sailors held captive on a simulated pirate base or merchant ship. The training includes rescue of a seized merchant ship and sailors, salvage exercise and surveillance.
South Korea deployed around 300 personnel for this event. This included a helicopter, the 4,400t destroyer ROKS Choe Yeong, and members of the 20th Cheonghae Anti-Piracy Unit, as well as special naval and army forces.
Two maritime surveillance aircraft, 22 helicopters and 18 vessels from 15 nations were involved in the exercise.
