ITEC 2016: Singapore invests in Aussie training areas
Singapore is investing heavily in training Down Under, with the announcement on 6 May that it will spend AU$2.25 billion (US$1.66 billion) on defence infrastructure.
The spending will be split between the Shoalwater Bay Training Area (SWBTA) and Townsville Field Training Area, both in the state of Queensland. Investment will include barracks, training facilities, roads, fencing and other measures.
This makes Singapore the second country after the US to invest in Australian military infrastructure, although American spending for its annual USMC rotations through Darwin pales in comparison.
