Sikorsky opens up Black Hawk services to Latin America
Sikorsky is offering its Colombia-based depot-level maintenance and simulator flight training facilities for use by other Black Hawk helicopter operators in Latin America, Lockheed Martin announced on 3 April.
Originally established to support the Colombia armed forces and National Police, the support facilities will now be available to allow other countries in the region, such as Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Mexico, to take advantage of the same services close to their home bases of operation.
Sikorsky’s Black Hawk Helicopter Flight Simulator Center is located at the Colombian Air Force base in Melgar. The centre contains a full-motion, five-axis Black Hawk simulator with high fidelity views outside the cockpit. The company also has a 2,972m² Black Hawk helicopter depot-level repair facility at the Tolemaida Colombia Army base. The facility is equipped to provide airframe structural repairs.
Adam Schierholz, regional executive for Latin America, Sikorsky, said: ‘Our facilities in Colombia have the manpower, the expertise, the space and capacity to provide flight simulator training for the region’s Black Hawk pilots, and to conduct phased inspections and major overhauls for their aircraft.
