Saab anti-sub training for Sweden
Saab has received an order from the Swedish FMV to deliver an advanced anti-submarine warfare training packing including the AUV62 autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), the company announced on 1 June.
The order forms part of a 2014 Letter of Intent signed between FMV and Saab in 2014 for the support of Sweden's underwater capabilities.
The AUV62-AT will be delivered in training configuration, and Saab will also provide maintenance and support to the customer. The company will also support training activities during the contract period running between 2016-2019.
The AUV62-AT is an artificial acoustic target that can mimic a submarine and is compatible with all sonar and torpedo systems currently in the market. It replaces the role of a submarine as a manoeuvring training target.
Anne-Marie Vösu, head of underwater systems, Saab, said: 'For the Swedish navy this order means that they will have an increased capability and flexibility to practice and train their units in anti-submarine warfare.
'Saab’s experience and expertise within autonomous underwater vehicles means that we can offer world-leading training opportunities for our customers in anti-submarine warfare.'
