RCAF to use roadmap for training ranges modernisation
Air weapons and training ranges used by the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) are to be upgraded based on planning by QinetiQ, the UK-headquartered group announced on 14 July.
QinetiQ was awarded a 12-month contract, with the option of an additional year, by the RCAF Air Warfare Centre. The centre issued an RfP in July 2019 seeking industry proposals.
The value of the deal was undisclosed.
Using a roadmap to be designed by QinetiQ, the RCAF will upgrade and enhance seven weapons ranges to accommodate 4.5- or fifth-generation fighter aircraft.
The study will examine how the ranges should be upgraded to cater for all future RCAF platforms, including fighters, freighters, helicopters, SAR and RPAS.
The modernised ranges will also be capable of intregrating live synthetic blended training and experimental environments, including simulated training assets.
