Northrop Grumman has received a $46 million order from the US Air Force (USAF) for eight Joint Threat Emitter (JTE) units, the company announced on 14 May.
Awarded by the USAF Life Cycle Management Center, this award includes the delivery of eight wide-band variants of the threat emitter unit, as well as retrofit kits for a number of existing systems. The order is part of an IDIQ contract awarded by the USAF in December 2018.
The JTE is a mobile air defence electronic warfare threat simulator that provides high-fidelity replication of surface-to-air missiles and anti-aircraft artillery threats for aircrew training.
James Conroy, vice president, land and avionics C4ISR, Northrop Grumman, said: ‘JTE is critical to the success of the US military and our international allies. The system ensures aircrews are better equipped to identify and effectively counter the most advanced enemy missile and artillery threats.’
The systems will be delivered to US training ranges across the country and select international locations.

The company will operate in two new locations in the coming years to better support US services.
This type of tool provides more realistic training easing the incorporation of new scenarios that accurately represent the threats of the battlefield.
The Engineering Corps has been conducting individual instruction using FLAIM Systems’ Sweeper and should start collective deployments in 2025.
The next-generation platform is motion-compatible and can be used in OTW and NVG applications.
The system can be used to prepare soldiers for both drone offensive operations and CUAS missions.
