MetaVR to assist USAF Reaper training
The USAF Joint Systems Integration Lab (JSIL) has placed an order for an additional 171 MetaVR Virtual Reality Scene Generator (VRSG) licences for the MALET-JSIL Aircrew Trainer (MJAT).
The VRSG is combined with US government off-the-shelf software to create a mock Ground Control Station (GCS) used to train pilots in operating the General Atomics MQ-9 Reaper UAS.
At least 56 units of the MJAT have been deployed a various USAF sites since 2016 for classroom familiarisation training.
VRSG simulates the GCS camera payload using real-time HD-quality H.264 video with KLV metadata. This software is used in the field enabling operators to gain confidence and familiarity with the control of the MQ-9 Reaper.
