Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $26.5 million contract by the US Navy for the production of Enhanced Laser Guided Training Rounds (ELGTR), the company announced on 3 August.
The contract includes a base year order with options for four additional years.
The contract extends ELGTR production into late 2019, and calls for Lockheed Martin to deliver ELGTRs and refurbish reusable shipping containers.
The ELGTR emulates the envelope, flight characteristics and guidance system of the Paveway II laser-guided bomb, allowing aircrew to practice delivery tactics in a real-mission environment and experience actual weapon characteristics. The ELGTR is compatible with the F-16, AV-8B, F/A-18 and other international aircraft platforms.

The company will operate in two new locations in the coming years to better support US services.
This type of tool provides more realistic training easing the incorporation of new scenarios that accurately represent the threats of the battlefield.
The Engineering Corps has been conducting individual instruction using FLAIM Systems’ Sweeper and should start collective deployments in 2025.
The next-generation platform is motion-compatible and can be used in OTW and NVG applications.
The system can be used to prepare soldiers for both drone offensive operations and CUAS missions.
