Kongsberg Maritime to acquire SMSC
Kongsberg Maritime is strengthening its maritime simulation capabilities with the acquisition of the Ship Modelling & Simulation Centre (SMSC), a simulation and consultancy company.
SMSC’s experience in supplying simulation, training and certification will expand Kongsberg Maritime’s offerings in the merchant marine, navy and offshore personnel simulator training market.
Areas of new development are expected to include new and accurate models for simulation exercises, ship modelling and engineering, and pre-simulation and operational consulting.
The acquisition is scheduled to be completed in January 2016.

‘At a time of strong focus on cost savings, it is important to look into the optimisation of procedures and crew training for more competent and effective implementation of operations. With the acquisition of SMSC, we will have the ability to assist our customers to improve their margins.’
