ITEC 2018: Griffins and Squirrels leave helicopter flying school

The last graduates leave the UK’s Defence Helicopter Flying School (DHFS) on 28 March having trained on the Squirrel HT1/HT2 and Griffin HT1 helicopters at RAF Shawbury.

These aircraft have now been replaced as part of the Military Flying Training System (MFTS) rotary-wing course by a fleet of 32 Airbus Helicopters aircraft; 29 Juno HT1s (H135) and three Jupiter HT1s (H145).

The final Juno is expected to be delivered in May 2018. The Junos are based at RAF Shawbury and the Jupiters at RAF Valley in North Wales.

The original DHFS contract was let to FBS
