Italian Army receives initial UH-169Bs
Leonardo has delivered its first UH-169B basic training helicopters to the Italian Army, as part of the broader AW169MA Light Utility Helicopter acquisition programme.
‘Two AW169 trainers will allow the operator and its crews to familiarise with the platform’s basic characteristics, supporting the transition to the new LUH [Light Utility Helicopter] programme,’ Leonardo announced on 10 July.
The training helicopters are provided with turnkey logistical support and pilot/maintenance technician training.
In April, the Italian MoD's Air Force Armaments and Airworthiness Directorate approved the acquisition of 15 new Leonardo advanced multirole helicopters and associated technical support, for an overall cost of €337 million ($382 million).
This figure includes the development and purchase of the two basic trainer variants.
