Indian MoD approves new baffle firing ranges
The Indian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has approved the construction of 17 new baffle firing ranges at military facilities across the country, the MoD announced on 3 July.
At a cost of around $34.6 million, seven ranges will be added to the Southern Command, three to the Eastern Command, two to the Northern Command, one each to the South Western and Central Commands. The facilities include stations, cantonments and training establishments.
These new ranges will be in addition to the 60 similar firing ranges already in use across the country.
The baffle shooting ranges, which can facilitate firing from 300m to 500m, are covered shooting practice areas which prevent possible accidents due to stray bullet injuries.
