HTT 40 enters spin testing phase
Hindustan Aeronautics’ (HAL's) HTT 40 basic trainer aircraft has begun its spin test phase by successfully entering into a two turn spin and subsequently recovering with the appropriate controls, the company announced on 9 November.
India's Defence Acquisition Council has approved procurement of 70 basic trainer aircraft from HAL. The aircraft has already undergone stall testing.
HAL’s Aircraft Research and Design Centre conducted extensive wind tunnel testing and mathematical model analyses to arrive at the spin chacteristics of the aircraft, which were put to the test during the test. According the company, the Preliminary Services Qualitative Requirements test points have been met and the spin completion is the last metric which needs to be accomplished before the aircraft enters service.
The production clearance for HTT 40 is expected to be received by the end of 2018.
