Finland picks Bagira for BARS
Israeli company Bagira Systems has been awarded a EUR42.16 million ($49.89 million) contract by the Finnish Department of Defence Logistics, to provide a replacement Blank Ammunition Replacement System (BARS) for the Finnish Defence Forces (FDF).
Bagira was the sole bidder for the four-year contract. Its Magnet-Lite simulation system will be used for training with firearms, eliminating the need to use blank ammunition to simulate the shot of a weapon.
According to Shephard Defence Insight, the Magnet unit is housed in a magazine and provides simulation of the firing event (sound, light, amount of ammunition and laser operation) and connectivity with the control station.
BARS will be installed on 7.62mm assault rifles, Sako TRG-42 sniper rifles and 7.62mm PKM light machine guns.
The FDF will operate BARS at all 21 of its garrisons in Finland.
