Farnborough 2018: Industry awaits USAF decision on T-X trainer

Industry is waiting with bated breath for the US Air Force to pick its new Advanced Pilot Trainer (T-X) aircraft.

Speaking with Shephard at Farnborough on 16 July, Leonardo DRS CEO William Lynn says he is still expecting the USAF to pick its new T-X trainer programme this summer. 

The T-X is slated to replace the USAF's Northrop T-38C Talon aircraft and will provide student pilots with the skills and competencies required to transition into fourth and fifth generation fighter aircraft. In the Pentagon's FY 2019 budget request, the service requested $265 million for the T-X.
