DoD exercises option for more TH-73As
Leonardo company AgustaWestland Philadelphia has received a $171 million contract modification to build and deliver 36 more TH-73A trainer helicopters to the USN under the Advanced Helicopter Training System programme.
Work is scheduled for completion by December 2022.
Leonardo was awarded the original firm-fixed-price $176.5 million contract in January 2020 for 32 TH-73As, plus initial spares, support and dedicated equipment, and specific pilot and maintenance training services.
The TH-73A will be used to train future USMC, USN and Coast Guard pilots, as a replacement for the TH-57B/C helicopters.
Shephard Defence Insight notes there is funding provision for 130 units in total in the FY2021 DoD budget plan.
