Boeing, Saab crack on with T-X phase one
Saab has received an order from prime contractor Boeing for the US Air Force’s new T-X Advanced Pilot Training Aircraft programme.
Boeing and Saab were selected by the air force in September for the T-X programme, for which the companies will deliver 351 aircraft and a ground based training system.
This order covers the first - Engineering and Manufacturing Development (EMD) - phase of the programme. During this phase Saab and Boeing will industrialise the T-X aircraft together with the customer. It also covers testing, US military flight certification and the delivery of five jets. The EMD phase will be followed by a serial production phase.
The order will run until 2022.
Saab and Boeing have developed the T-X aircraft together. Saab is a risk-sharing partner with Boeing in the development.
