Boeing to continue USAF T-38 support
Boeing will continue maintenance and support of the US Air Force’s T-38 Talon trainer aircraft fleet through to 2026 under a new contract announced on 14 January. The ten year contract is worth up to $855 million.
The T-38 is the primary training jet for the air force. Boeing will maintain and support avionics, cockpit displays, control panels, and communications systems for the 456-strong fleet, and will upgrade 37 aircrew training devices.
Kurt Schroeder, T-38 program manager, said: ‘We are playing a vital role in preparing pilots to make the transition to modern fighter aircraft. Working with our air force customers, Boeing is keeping the T-38 mission ready for the next decade.’
Boeing is currently teamed with Saab to compete for the air force programme to replace the T-38 with the T-X pilot training system. The team will offer an all-new, purpose-built system that includes the aircraft and associated ground-based training and support systems.
