Airbus orders cargo hold simulators for two German bases
Rheinmetall Electronics is supplying two airbases in Germany with Cargo Hold Part Task Trainer (CPTT) simulators for the A400M transport aircraft, following a January 2021 contract award from OEM Airbus.
‘Earmarked for German air bases in Wunstorf and Altenstadt, the two simulators will be delivered and ready to operate at the end of 2022 or the beginning of 2023,’ Rheinmetall announced on 19 February, adding that the order ‘is worth a figure in the lower two-digit million-euro range’.
The Air Transport Wing 62 of the German Air Force will receive one of the CPTTs for its A400M training centre at Wunstorf, to augment an existing suite of simulation and training systems. These include the Cargo Hold Trainer - Enhanced simulator for advanced training of cargo hold crews, especially loadmasters and ground personnel.
A second bespoke CPTT will be installed at the Airmobile and Air Transport School in Altenstadt, where it will be used for training air freight handling personnel and paratroopers.
The CPTT is an exact full-scale replica of the A400M cargo hold (pictured), including operator interfaces. It enables mission-specific configuration of the cargo hold. Training includes preparation of cargo, loading and unloading, in-flight and ground procedures.
