L-39NG trainer development progresses
Aero Vodochody’s L-39CW jet trainer has received type certification from the military aviation department of the Czech Republic Ministry of Defence, the company announced on 14 March.
The L-39CW jet trainer represents the L-39 aircraft with new engine and modernied avionics equipment.
This certification marks an important milestone in development of the new generation L-39NG jet trainer, which is being undertaken in two phases. The first phase certifies the integration of the new engine and avionics on an existing L-39 platform, as the intermediate configuration L-39CW. The second phase will integrate the new airframe and other system modifications.
The two phase approach is allowing flight test activities to take place while the development of the new airframe is ongoing.
Giuseppe Giordo, president, Aero Vodochody, said: 'Aero has now certification for both, the engine installation and the new avionics. Such an achievement give us important advantage in the schedule of the L-39NG project compared to our competitors and an already available solution for L-39 users. It is an important milestone in our path to roll-out and flying the new aircraft this year'.
