US and Qatar sign MoU on AUAB
The US Department of Defense (DoD) and Qatar’s Ministry of Defence signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 13 January concerning Qatar’s support of DoD activities at Al Udeid Air Base (AUAB) in Doha, Qatar.
The MoU represents a step towards the eventual formalisation of Qatar’s commitment to support sustainment costs and future infrastructure costs at AUAB, which Qatar proposed at the US-Qatar Strategic Dialogue in January 2018.
Since 2003, Qatar has hosted the US Central Command and Special Operations Command Forward Headquarters and US Air Forces Central Command at AUAB, along with over 11,000 US and coalition service members.
