SOFIC 2018: US SOF examines platform needs to compete in a conventional war

US special forces will need new platforms with additional survivability to withstand a conventional conflict with Russia or China.

US Army Gen Raymond Thomas, the commander of US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM), said that the new National Defense Strategy (NDS) will not have any "significant or serious vectors" for his command. 

"I think it is a real opportunity for us to blossom and not be relegated to 'Oh, you are the low-intensity guys. You're the guys that just do [counter terrorism],'" Thomas told an audience 22 May at SOFIC 2018. 

Released in January, the NDS called for the Pentagon to shift
