SOFIC 2018: Cubic and Shield pitch UAV to US Special Operations Command

Cubic Corporation and Shield Aviation have teamed up to develop and pitch a new UAS ISR capability to US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM).

Speaking with Shephard on 21 May at SOFIC 2018, Cubic's president for mission solutions Mike Twyman said Shield Aviation is developing a Group III UAS — 18ft long with a 22ft wing span — and Cubic is integrating communication capabilities and payloads onto the aircraft.

'We're doing flight testing at various ranges in the United States…to basically debug this system,' Twyman said.

While he wouldn't say when the UAS would be ready for fielding, he noted that
