SOCOM explores M230 cannon enhancements
US Special Operations Command is exploring operational enhancements to its M230 30mm cannon systems, it has emerged.
Under a $666,229 contract announced on 7 September, Orbital ATK will be performing non-recurring engineering services to conduct ground and flight testing of a modified M230 30mm Chain Gun weapon system.
The announcement describes the engineering effort, including 'the production of sufficient material and/or kitting to support the ground testing that will lead to a material solution(s) that lead to a reduction in weapon vibration and blast suppression’.
