The Latvian National Armed Forces (NAF) has placed a $12.74 million order with Finnish company BRP for the delivery of Outlander MAX 650 XT military version all-terrain vehicles (ATVs), the Latvian Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on 15 June.
The ATVs are being acquired through a NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) Logistics Stock Exchange (NLSE) joint procurement partnership.
The contract will also see BRP supply standard sets of spare parts and train Latvian mechanics on the maintenance of the vehicle.
The first ATVs will be delivered to the NAF at the end of 2018 and the rest will arrive in Latvia by mid-2019.
Lt Gen Leonīds Kalniņš, chief of the defence staff, said: ‘Procurement of multi-purpose operational ATVs suitable for Latvian terrain is a natural evolution towards better tactical mobility of NAF units.
‘We joined NSPA partnership to make sure that we manage NAF resources with maximum efficiency and NAF benefits from NSPA international procurement partnership by accessing the required resources.’
