Ivorian SOF equipment showcased

Ivorian Special Forces (SF) displayed new Toyota Land Cruiser tactical vehicles together with Cayman armored reconnaissance vehicles, BTR-70 armored personnel carriers (APC), and a single Snake mine-resistance ambush protected (MRAP) vehicle during a recent military parade commemorating Côte d’Ivoire’s independence.

The Ivorian SF were created in 2011. The unit was originally battalion sized but is set for expansion, as evidenced by the recruitment of 500 new troops, which took place in early 2018. New barracks are also being constructed in Jacqueville, 60 km West of Abidjan, which will house the SF together with a new French-sponsored counter-terrorist regional school. While
