Avalon 2019: RfT for Aussie SOF helicopters approaches
Contenders, including Airbus Helicopters, Bell and Leonardo, have already responded to last September’s RfI for the Australian Army’s requirement for 20 light special operations helicopters. The former is offering the H145M, Bell both the 407 and 429, and Leonardo the AW109 Trekker, AW159 Wildcat or AW169.
Because OEMs felt that the RfI for Project Land 2097 Phase 4 was somewhat vague on what the army is looking for, some are offering more than one helicopter platform. Bell has single-engine and twin-engine types, for example, while Leonardo has a possible line-up of three that can be whittled
