AFSOC to procure additional A-29 Super Tucano
USAF Special Operations Command (AFSOC) is to procure an additional A-29 Super Tucano from Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC). The aircraft will be used for Combat Aviation Advisor (CAA) missions.
This will be the third A-29 delivered under an undefinitised contract between the company and the USAF which was announced in March 2020.
The contract will also see SNC provide ground support equipment, pilot training, contractor logistic support, aircraft spares and sustainment for the CAA mission.
Ed Topps, VP of tactical aircraft systems and programmes for SNC’s ISR, Aviation and Security division, said: ‘SNC is proud of our close partnership with the USAF, specifically in identifying ways to acquire the additional A-29 at the best value to the US taxpayer and in support of US and allied operations.’
Production of the first two A-29s is in progress at SNC facilities in Jacksonville, Florida with planned delivery of all three aircraft in 2021.
