USS Preble to undergo comprehensive modernisation
BAE Systems San Diego Ship Repair is to ‘maintain, modernise and repair’ the Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer USS Preble, the DoD announced on 13 August.
Work under this $103.59 million comprehensive modernisation contract is scheduled for completion by February 2022.
The deal includes options which, if exercised, would raise the overall value to $117.75 million.
In May 2019, it was reported that Preble will be the first USN ship to be fitted with the 60kW High Energy Laser and Integrated Optical-dazzler with Surveillance (HELIOS) system. This work is scheduled to take place in 2021.
Preble was most recently deployed on maritime security operations in the United States Southern Command area of responsibility.
