Raytheon SM-6 order book grows
The US Navy has ordered an additional 74 Standard Missile-6 (SM-6) all up rounds, spares, containers and services from Raytheon, the company announced on 2 June.
The $149 million order is in addition to a long-lead material purchase worth nearly $110 million received in March, and brings the total full-rate production contract for Fiscal Year 2015-2016 to $259 million.
SM-6 is a supersonic surface-to-air missile that can engage manned and unmanned aircraft, including fixed-wing aircraft and rotorcraft. It also defends against anti-ship and land-attack cruise missiles.
Mike Campisi, senior programme director, SM-6, Raytheon, said: 'The SM-6 has advanced capabilities and speed. Combatant commanders want their deployed ships armed with as many of these interceptors as possible, and we're ramping up production to meet that need.'
