Saab, Damen partner for Brazilian corvette bid
Saab has teamed up with Damen Schelde Naval Shipbuilding to bid for the project to supply four Tamandaré class corvettes (CCT) to the Brazilian Navy, the companies announced on 18 June.
The proposed vessel will be based on Damen's Sigma 10514 design, fitted with a range of equipment including Saab's 9LV Combat Management System (CMS).
In addition to supplying the CCTs, the companies will also propose a thorough technology transfer programme for the project to benefit Brazil's national defence industry.
Richard Keulen, director of naval sales at Damen, said: ‘We at Damen appreciate the increasingly important task of the Brazilian Navy to safeguard the maritime domain against its existent and future threats and challenges. We are looking forward to participate in a constructive way in this process. We also are confident that our product will integrate perfectly with those of Saab.’
