IMDEX Asia: Regional tensions take centre stage

The International Maritime Security Conference (IMSC) 2015 kicked off at IMDEX Asia with a series of keynote addresses from regional navy chiefs and senior naval officials. 

Lurking in the background of the conference, themed ‘Safe and Secure Seas – Strengthening Maritime Cooperation’, were unsettling territorial disputes in places like the South China Sea, an issue alarming the Philippines and Vietnam amongst others.

Perhaps VAdm Timothy Barrett, chief of the Royal Australian Navy, came closest to pinpointing the real issues at hand.
