Shipbuilder reports further progress on Project 955A
The Russian MoD seems to have placed an order for two more improved Borei-class (Project 955A) nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines (SSBNs).
Mikhail Budnichenko, director general of Sevmash (the United Shipbuilding Corporation subsidiary responsible for producing the submarines) told Russian news agency Interfax in early January 2021 that the contract was signed in July 2020 for two boats, to be named Dmitry Donsky and Knyaz Potemkin.
Budnichenko added that Knyaz Oleg, a Project 955A submarine launched in 2020, is being completed by Sevmash for a scheduled handover to the Russian Navy in late 2021.
