The award by Babcock of the second batch of supply chain contracts for the Royal Navy’s planned Type 31 frigates has provided additional details and insight into the kinds of engineering capabilities that the class will feature once they enter service.

Babcock announced on 17 April that it will receive German-manufactured main engines and diesel generators from Rolls-Royce, and reduction gearboxes supplied by Renk, while MAN Energy Solutions will provide propellers and propeller shaft lines.
