Hellenic Navy introduces latest missile boat

The Hellenic Navy commissioned its latest 670t fast attack craft - missile (FAC-M) boat on 28 July.

This craft, named Karathanasis, is the sixth and penultimate boat in the Roussen (Super Vita) class. The final FAC-M (Vlahakos) is expected to be commissioned in 2021, to complete the programme more than 20 years after it began. The delayed programme illustrates the serious problems Greece has faced with its naval shipbuilding sector that was suffering even before the financial crisis.
