December deals reflect closer Ukrainian-Turkish ties

Series of contracts includes procurement of four Ada-class corvettes for the Ukrainian Navy.

Ukraine has deepened its defence procurement relationship with Turkey, after Minister of Defence Andriy Taran signed several contracts with Turkish companies on 14 December 2020 – the same day that the US imposed sanctions on Ankara under the Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA).

Details of the orders from Ukraine were not disclosed at the time, although it later emerged that Ukraine is ordering four Ada-class corvettes under a technology transfer and production agreement.

Shephard Defence Insight estimates that this will cost Ukraine $1.06 billon (based on an Ada-class export order from Pakistan) with deliveries forecast to take place
